A Mountain of Anime News Dropped Over the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays offer a multitude of activities far superior than catching up on the updates: unwrapping gifts, indulging in delicious food, and harnessing patience techniques to avoid arguing with loved ones. I hope you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy news items emerged during the holidays, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)
Without a doubt the most surprising announcement, the much-discussed troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop more episodes. Season 3 will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have called it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which is seen as a good sign. However, the main art for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, at this point, they could be mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now fans are overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been running for some time, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will very likely air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio renowned for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.
Tougen Anki Will Return With a Second Season
Immediately following the airing of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara.
